Competition Rules
20 - 27 September 2025
General Competition Rules.
Please remember this is our third year presenting this competition and therefore it may not be 100% smooth. We are getting better at it. The idea, though, is the competition is focused on having fun, good spirit, building some camaraderie, and perhaps learning a bit more about fishing.
Base Camp
1. The Competition Base Camp will be at Dundubara camp grounds.

Information board
2. The information board containing the latest information and competition standings will be at the Base Camp.
Fish size limits and number limits
3. All participants need to comply with Queensland Fisheries general rules and regulations.

4. None compliance with Queensland Fisheries rules will lead to disqualification from the competition.
Measurements
for
Edible Fish
5. Caught fish to be considered for entry into the competition are to be measured by competition marshals.
6. Official measurements for entrance into the competition will be taken 7pm at night at the official measuring station at Base Camp.
7. All fish will be required to be measured on the official competition measuring mats and photographed by the marshals.
8. No self measured fish will be considered for entrance into the competition.
9. Caught fish to be considered for entry into the competition have to be presented for official measurement on the same day the fish is caught.
Sharks
10. Sharks have to be released for entrance into the shark competition.
11. Sharks have to be measured on the official 2025 measuring mats with sufficient photographic evidence of the full length of the fish to be clearly noted on the photograph. The head to tail needs to be shown clearly in the photo. Obviously a good quality resolution photo will be best.
12. Video evidence of the fisherman fighting the fish is required particularly the last part of the fight where the fish is landed.
Prize Giving
13. The prize giving will be held on 27 September 2025 at Base Camp at 7pm.
14. Winners will be made known at this time.
15. Prizes will be handed over at this time.
16. If a Winner is not there to receive his / her prize, then it will be up to the event organisers to determine a convenient time and place, for the event organisers, for handover of the prize.
No fishing zones
17. No fishing is allowed from 400 meters South of Indian Head to 400 meters North of Waddy Point.
Marshals'
decision
is final
18. The marshals ' decisions are final in all respects.
No abuse, negative comments
19. Any abusive behavior will cause immediate disqualification from the competition.
20. Any negative comments in public or on social media about the competition, the marshals or participants, will cause immediate disqualification from the competition, including at the event organiser's discretion, participation in future events.

21. We appreciate a competitive spirit, however this is a family orientated, fun fishing competition.
22. The objective of the competition is to create healthy enjoyable family memories.

Competition Categories
There will be two main age categories for the competition. One for children up to 16 years of age and one for adults.
Then one each for male and female.

Age
Categories
Children will be deemed to be male and female under 16 years of age.
​
Adults will be regarded as over 16 years of age.
Age and Gender
benefit
Any fisher person between 16 and under 19 years of age, will receive an automatic 5% size increase on their fish sizes.
Target
Species
The main target specie for the competition for all 4 categories is Tailor.
​
The other target species will be Jewfish, Dart, Spanish Mackerel, GT and there is also a prize category for the most meritorious fish / catch.
Prizes
There will be prizes for all categories, although the focus on this event will be on the children and therefore their prizes will be a bit more elaborate than the adult prizes. The children's categories will have a First, Second and Third place prize where the adult categories will only have prizes for the winner of each category.

This is only our first year and therefore the prizes may increase over time as the competition develops.
Biggest Tailor for the week
Rules for the Biggest Tailor of the week prize.
Four categories, one for children (male and female separate) and one for adults (male and female separate).
Dates
The tailor needs to be caught between 20 September 2025 and 27 September 2025 on Fraser Island (K'Gari Island)
To be
measured
To be eligible for the competition the fish is required to be measured by a marshal at the official daily weigh-in session at 7pm at base camp.
Biggest fish
The biggest tailor will be determined by the length of the fish, not the weight.
Fresh fish
The fish needs to be measured on the day it is caught.
Biggest Tailor for each day
Rules for the Biggest Tailor of the day prize.
Four categories, one for children and one for adults, and then male and female separate.
Dates and times
The tailor needs to be caught between a specified time, a two hour window which time will be advised the day before. It will most probably be either between 6am and 8am or 4pm and 6pm every day between 20 September 2025 and 27 September 2025 on Fraser Island (K'Gari Island) at a designated fishing zone to be determined by the marshals.

Remember the main communication will be made via the Base Camp display board. Each day's fishing zone will be displayed on a sign board at Base Camp prior to the fishing time. The fishing zone will be somewhere between Dundubara and the Maheno Shipwreck, but may be at a different spot depending on the island conditions and where the fish are biting.
Fish is to be kept alive
To be eligible for this prize everyday, the fish needs to be caught and placed in the designated live well pool which the marshals will provide in the fishing zone.

There will be one pool for the adult's fish and one pool for the children's fish.
Biggest fish
The biggest tailor will be determined by the length of the fish, not the weight.
How this will work
The first fish of the session will be placed in the designated live well pool provided by the marshals and every time a bigger fish is brought to the pool the bigger fish will replace the smaller fish. By the end of the session the biggest fish will be in the pool and the prize will be handed over to the winner.
Biggest Jewfish for the week
Rules for the Biggest Jewfish of the week prize.
Four categories, one for children (male and female separate) and one for adults (male and female separate).

What is a most meritorious fish?
The most meritorious fish will be determined by the marshals taking into account various factors such as the species of fish, size of the fish, fishing tackle used, age of the fisher person, and any other factors the marshals deem required to be taken into consideration.

Biggest Spanish Mackerel for the week
